Volunteer Code of Conduct

Owl Ridge Raptor Center depends on dedicated volunteers to carry out our mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and educating the public about birds of prey. To protect the safety, professionalism, and integrity of our work, all volunteers are expected to follow this Code of Conduct.

1. Respect & Teamwork

We maintain a culture of respect, kindness, and cooperation toward all people and animals. Volunteers are expected to work together with courtesy and patience, follow staff direction, and treat every bird, visitor, and team member with care.

2. Safety First

The safety and well-being of our birds, volunteers, and visitors always come first. Follow all handling, enclosure, and safety procedures exactly as trained. If you are ever unsure of a task, ask a staff member before proceeding.

3. Professional Behavior

You represent Owl Ridge at all times—on-site, at events, and online. Be respectful in all communication, including social media, texts, and email. Do not post or share confidential information, such as intake details, bird conditions, or location of rescues.

4. Substance-Free Environment

The use or possession of alcohol, illegal substances, or being under the influence while volunteering or representing Owl Ridge is strictly prohibited. This includes on-site work, public events, and any off-site activities related to the organization.

5. Confidentiality

Certain information—including medical conditions, rescue cases, and private donor or volunteer data—must remain confidential. Sharing or discussing these details outside the organization is not permitted.

6. Conflict Resolution

Disagreements may occur, but they must be handled calmly and respectfully. Address issues directly with a team leader or board member. Personal attacks, gossip, or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

7. Commitment & Communication

Be realistic about the time you can commit. If your availability changes, notify the volunteer coordinator. Respond promptly to messages when possible, and always communicate if you cannot attend a scheduled shift.

8. Departure

If you choose to step down from volunteering, please provide notice and assist in a smooth transition of your duties. Your contribution is appreciated, and you remain part of the Owl Ridge community.

By volunteering with Owl Ridge Raptor Center, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and represent the organization with integrity, compassion, and respect.
